Little League World Series: Panama Advances

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Baseball is full of chokes!

Here’s a few examples, 1986 Game 6th NY METS vs. Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees loose four straight to Boston Red Sox 2004 after winning the first three.

In this year’s Little League World Series, Panama rallies to defeat Chinese Taipei 8-7 after trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mariano Rivera are you watching? If so, you are most likely their lucky charm! Three reasons for Chinese Taipei fall:

  • In the top of the Sixth inning they left bases loaded to being caught off guard at First Base when during a wild pitch everyone thought the runner was coming home and did not and the Taipei runner was caught off guard for third out ending the threat.
  • Consisten hitting by Panama and Costly errors by Chinese Taipei! In the bottom of the Sixth Panama had two men on base with two outs, then a walk to load the bases. Suddenly a ball was hit to the Third Baseman and then error! One run scores 7-5, with the bases still loaded Panama comes thru with a single to tie the game!
  • Pitching Mishaps! Walks, Walks, and then with the pitcher ahead in the count of 2 Strikes and no balls, and bases still loaded: Chinese Taipei pitcher hits the batter and the winning run scores! Panama advances and Chines Taipei goes home! Talk about chokes! And Heartaches!

Here’s a recap from earlier action:

Puerto Rico came out like former Boxing champ Wilfredo Gomez swinging, by the fourth inning they led 3-0. Yet Chinese Tai Pai came out in the bottom of Fourth with the spirit of Jackie Chan scoring 5 runs and added another run in the next inning.

Team Puerto Rico came out rallying with two outs in the top of the Sixth scoring one run, eventually loading the bases, yet Chinese Tai Pai held on to win the game 6-4 and sending Puerto Rico packing going back to school.

Fellow Latin American country, Panama faced Canada and stayed alive. Coming out with a punch of former Boxing champ Roberto Duran, fierce competitiveness of fellow countryman pitcher Mariano Rivera, thus defeating Team Canada 12-0. By the fourth inning, the mercy rule was put in place and Panama was victorious.

Their next game is against Chinese Tai Pai let’s see if the same fierceness is still there.
