Former NY Yankee pitcher, José Contreras who could have pitched much better if the Yankees would have communicated better with him, thus he moved on and won a World Series ring with the Chicago White Sox is again in the news. Contreras is the first Cuban athlete to return to his homeland and visit with family.

Though his visit might have caused criticism from the conservative Cubans in Miami, Contreras should be congratulated for standing up and doing the right thing when it comes to his family. Contreras who is considered one of the best amateur pitchers in the history of Cuban baseball was never one to talk negative of his Cuban days. I once asked him about his experience in Cuba and he stated that he could not speak bad about Cuba since if not for the revolution he would not be who he was today. Hopefully the Obama administration will do the right thing and lift travel restrictions for US citizens to Cuba so that anyone here could travel and make your opinions on Cuba.
